The water main shutoff valve is positioned on the boundary near the road, typically under a blue or black cover. You may know it as a water toby, stopcock or isolated valve. Turning the mains off can protect your home from more leaks or damage to the hot water cylinder.

Can I unclog the drain myself?

If you've got a plunger, it's worth trying to unblock the blockage yourself. We recommend a plunger that has a long handle, especially for the toilet, so you can stay back out of the splash zone. Chemicals are not recommended as they seldom do a good job and can damage your pipes.
